Community Support

Strengthening community

Going Beyond Our Walls

NeighborUp strengthens the community by connecting neighbors to resources, amplifying their voices, and creating spaces where we thrive together. From advocacy to health care to community partnerships, we work alongside our neighbors to remove barriers and building a more connected community.

Advocating for Neighbors, With Neighbors

NeighborUp conducts regular surveys and listening sessions to hear from clients about their experiences, wisdom and concerns—all to inform our advocacy. We invite concerned community members, especially with lived experience relevant to the issues, to engage in advocacy work with us.

Our efforts Include:

Seeks to keep happy healthy pet families together through the efforts of a coalition of human and animal welfare services representatives who look for opportunities to make system improvements for the benefit of pets and their families.

We support housing solutions in our community that increase the availability of affordable units for low-income families in our community.

We promote collaboration across area pantries with the goal of increasing dignified and compassionate access to food, including pet food.

We speak up for public transportation solutions that benefit low-income families in our community.

We support programs and policies that encourage employers to pay a living wage and increase access to training for living wage jobs.

We elevate the voices of NeighborUp served communities in climate action planning and communication.

We encourage all people to get involved and raise their voice on community issues through participating in community activities, responding to community feedback surveys, attending town hall meetings, voting and volunteering.

NeighborUp Plaza

We purchased the Plaza in 2008 with a vision to provide affordable space for other community-based organizations in addition to serving as the main hub for our services and the Dorcas Thrift Shop.

The Plaza is a nonprofit hub with partners that include Read and Feed, Advance Community Health, and Habitat Wake ReStore – Cary. As part of our mission to help our neighbors thrive, we support these organizations by leasing space to our partners at a below-market rate to help them make a larger community impact.
